Welcome to 4UP
Hello and a very warm welcome to you. 4UP was launched on 11 January 2012, following some two years of research and writing. The result was a Facebook group that quickly caught the imagination of people. In the last 6 months or so (as at the time of writing) we have grown by nearly 350%, so whilst we were first set up by a small team of volunteers who had experience of dealing with benefit applications, appeals and the problems that can arise thereof, due to demand we now have a team of almost 20 volunteers who assist people with JSA, sanctions, DLA, ESA, Incapacity Benefit, Universal Credit, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit to name but a few. If you are having difficulty with your Job Seeker’s Allowance claim or any other kind of benefit issue then you have come to the right place.
If this is your first time here, stay with us as you are in for a treat; if you are one of the hearty buccaneers from our original Facebook group, then by all means, lovely to have you with us, and please do feel free to welcome the new members as they join. This is our new HQ, although we will of course be keeping up with all existing Facebook groups too. We realised, however, that there are quite a lot of folk out there who prefer to either keep their Facebook private or refrain from having a Facebook account at all. At 4UP we are all about inclusion, and our new Forum page allows members to use an alias to protect their privacy if they so wish after email validation.
We are a community first and foremost. We work together, and with each other to solve problems for folk affected by benefit issues, and related concerns. Many talk to each other on the phone, some of us even meet up in groups, or at ‘events’ around the country.
How has this all come about, and why should I join you I hear you ask.
Well to begin with, whichever side of the fence you are on, either politically, socially, or economically, the headlines in the press today are in the main hostile toward folk who are unemployed, disabled, or both. It is high time there was a challenge to this, as well as many of the more outrageous examples of current political attitude currently inflaming public opinion.
However, there’s little hope of reasoned dialogue in the press, so people thus affected don’t feel they have a say any more. Well now they (and you) do.
And we have PLENTY to say on the issues affecting up to SEVEN MILLION people in the UK as I type this.
You will too.
We are much more than just the tremendous range of files and research and facts, figures and data we carry on board the good ship 4UP. We are much more than the lively, feisty, stimulating and compassionate conversations that take place between one another. We are more than the sum total of our parts when we come together to get problems sorted: we have had many successes in tackling the DWP and other aspects for our members. So you are, by joining us, no longer on your own.
Please take a moment to take a look at our terms of service, (team/house rules) and have a browse around the site, then let us know what you think! Look forward to seeing you shortly!
Shine On, Namaste.
